IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND YOUR RIGHTS IN SELECTING A COLLISION REPAIR SHOP. LIKE ANY OTHER BUSINESS, BODY SHOPS ARE NOT ALL THE SAME. YOU WILL WANT TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK, CHECK REFERENCES AND SELECT THE BUSINESS THAT YOU FEEL WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH THE BEST REPAIR AND SERVICE.
Many insurance companies will attempt to “steer” you to a shop that is on their direct repair program (DRP). These collision repair shops have written agreements with the insurer that are more focused on the cost of repairs than they are on safety and quality. The biggest example of this has to do with the types of parts used. DRP shops are typically required to write estimates using aftermarket and used parts instead of original equipment parts. This can affect the fit and finish of the vehicle and even the safety if it is in another accident.
Arizona state law protects your right to choose the body shop that you want to repair your car or truck. An insurance adjuster will often try to coerce you into going to a shop on their program by telling you that you won’t get a warranty or that you have chosen a shop that is not “approved” by them. Some adjusters will go so far as to tell you that you must go to a shop on their program. They are not being truthful.
Impact Auto Body works with all insurance companies while putting your interests first. We do not have a conflict of interest. We aren’t forced to use imitation parts and follow a set of rules put in place just to make insurance companies more money. We follow manufacturer recommended repair procedures and use original equipment parts whenever possible.
If an insurance company representative tries to make it sound like you “must” to a shop on their program, just remind them that the law in Arizona allows you to choose where you want your car repaired. This is usually enough to get them to stop trying to coerce you into going elsewhere.
