Car dents not only impact the appearance of your car but can also lessen the value of the car. We always recommend getting a car dent repaired professionally, especially when there is paint damage or the dent is anything other than a very small, minor dent. That said, here are a few ways to go about fixing a small dent. But remember, it is at your own risk and it is always better to have a professional do the job!
The Plunger Method
A regular household plunger can pull small to medium size dents out of your car. Splash some water on the dent and the plunger and pull until the dent is popped out. Be sure to utilize a cup plunger designed for sinks versus a flange plunger designed for toilets.
Boiling Water Method
Exercise great caution when doing this because of the burn risk. If you have a dent in a plastic bumper and you cannot remove the dent because the plastic is stiff, pour some boiling water on the dent and then very carefully smooth the dent.
Hair Dryer And Compressed Air Method
You can remove car dents from plastic by using compressed air and a hair dryer. Heat the car dent with a hair dryer set at its highest temperature, which in turn will expand the plastic of the car. As soon as it is hot enough, use a can of compressed air, invert it and start spraying the same area. The dent will pop out because the plastic will contract.
Dry Ice Method
Dry ice when used as a cooling agent can help you remove small dents. Use protective gloves and hold down a small block of dry ice on the dent and rub it about until you hear the dent pop back into position. You can apply the dry use as many times as needed and it should work as long as the dent is not too deep. You may want to use a hairdyer first to warm the area up before the application of dry ice.
Bucket And Vacuum Cleaner Method
You can utilize the power of suction to remove a dent by taking a bucket, some tape and your household vacuum cleaner. Make a small hole underneath the bucket, tape the bucket around the dent, then place the hose of the vacuum cleaner over the hole under the bucket and switch on the vacuum cleaner. As long as the dent is not too shallow in nature, you should create enough suction so the dent is popped out.
Glue, Screws and Wood Dowels Method
When repairing dents yourself there is always a risk you may cause more damage! A safer way of trying to take out larger dents is to use some wooden dowels, a hot glue gun and some screws. Place 2 nails into each side of the dowel and put hot glue on the bottom. Position the dowels glue side down arounf the dent and then let them dry…once they are dry pull each one out until the dent is gone.
